Re: what type of hydrafoil?

Hi, Jim.

As far as I know they all work pretty well.

I have used the Stingray and the SE Sport 300 and prefer the SE Sport 300 on my Boston Whaler Montauk 17' with Suzuki DF70 power.

After much research (getting opinions) I concluded that the EDGE in Stainless Steel is the best one available, but chose the SE Sport for price (about half that of the EDGE). It is a bit faster than the Stingray and claims to be "the fastest" hydrofoil.

Good luck. :)

In my experiance, They rob you of precious power. Dont get one at all. If your having stability problems when it comes to leveling your boat, look into the pitch and size of your prop.

Re: what type of hydrafoil?

Same as JB, I like the SE Sport 300 on my 19 foot Bayliner, I know with a Force, but it runs perfect so I can't complain.

Some tender Loving care and this boat is as good as they come. At least the parts that I fix, or do preventive maintenance on, I should say. But in my 6 years of having it, it has never died or given me any grief, so it will last.

Bryan

I gained 1 mph top end and now I can get on plan ALOT faster three or four times as fast. It al depends on your set up but even if I had lost 2 MPH then I would still have used it because my boat will get on plan 3-4 times faster than in did before.

Re: what type of hydrafoil?

There is a popular myth that a hydrofoil reduces top end by adding drag.

Properly installed, trimmed and rigged, a hydrofoil moves the center of contact aft on plane, thus quicker plane at lower speed, but it also slightly reduces the total contact area.

My experience with both the Stingray and the SE Sport 300 has been that the AV plate height and weight distribution in the boat become more important, but when optimized result in a higher top end and less fuel consumption at cruise.
