I just bought a used boat and have a 1997 5.7 Mercruiser with an Alpha I outdrive.

Could someone please tell me what type of outdrive lube I should use to top off the the reservoir in the engine compartment.

Thanks in advance.
I have a 2004 Alpha One Gen II outdrive and I use Mercury's Quicksilver Drive Lube. I know that it is available at BoatersWorld here. You can probably find it on their website also. BoatersWorld
Baldguy, Being a used boat it could be anyone's lube.If it is blue-green,probably Quicksilver high performance lube. How low is it?Maybe better to change it,use the right lube, and keep an eye on the level for awhile. This drive doesn't really "use" much lube at all.
DHP
It's blue-green in color so probably quicksilver. It's not that low but at or a hair below the add mark.

I've scheduled the impeller to be changed next weekend and so the drive oil will be changed then. I want to take it out one day this weekend and thought a top off would do it temporarily.

Sold my old boat the other week with a different drive set up. Not familiar with the Alpha drive. So your posts have helped.

I just bought a Mercruiser manual today as it drives me nuts not to be able to look up this stuff.

Thanks for the help!!!!!!
