What type of prop would you guys recommend for the above boat? The majority of its life will be on Lake Mead in Nevada/Arizona so not much issue of sand bars (very deep water). I will be picking the boat up next week and taking it to the lake the following week-end, I would like to have the SS prop in hand so I can do a change out if I'm not thrilled with the performance. The boat will be loaded to the tune of 4000-4100 lbs, I have been to the "Prop" pages but have too many choices...I was hoping that some of you guys out there could recommend a size and brand....

BTW.. Thanks to all who have replied to my earlier discussion topics, I purchased the Four Winns 194 deckboat with the Volvo Penta 270HP-SX set up based on the replies from you folks!

Thanks Again.... Well, for what it's worth I just bought a SS after dealing with fragility issues of aluminum and composite props.

I had been running a 4-blade ProPulse, set at 20p which put my 5.0 Volvo in the ideal RPM range. When I cranked out my new SS Rapture 21p, I gained 12mph top end and still had great holeshot. What I noticed with the Rapture is the leading edge of the blade is quite 'fat' which seems to grab the water really well.

However, you have about...80hp more than my motor, so a 21p may not be enough. Any way you can demo one somehow?

Meadview,
The prop you should look at closely would be a Laser II prop. They are designed to be run in the water- fully submerged. Sounds silly but many SS props that run great on a bass boat or lightweight boat will not work well on a heavier boat. They prefer to run at the surface- just the way they are made. The Laser likes to run fully submerged. I just purchased a Laser for my 20' cuddy and it performs great. Great holeshot and great top end. Mid-range acceleration is excellent- very responsive. I can hit right around 54 mph at 4600 rpm. My boat comes in around 3000 lbs.

There are a lot of SS props out there and they are designed for specific applications. Go to the Mercury prop selector page and put in your info. It will give you a decent idea of what to run.

3 blades do better on top end but 4 blades are smoother and hold the water better. Better low end grab as well.

UFM82

Does the new boat come with a stainless prop? The one that Volvo suggests will likely provide a good hole shot and top end to the specs they advertise.

Surely the dealer you just spent $30K with has a few stainless props laying around or one of the shop guys knows someplace you could borrow one?

I would not spend $500 unless/until I knew the performance was going to be better than what came with the boat.
