Hello, I'm still working on the boat getting anxious for summer and have some more questions! 1988 Baja SS164, 1988 110hp Johnson.

I'm used to seeing single cable steering on boats like mine. I have two cables that appear to work in opposition. Instead of a round box at the helm I have a very wide metal plate (maybe 16-18" wide). It looks like a rack and pinion? It has the Teleflex brand on it but I couldn't find a number or anything.

I'm not looking to replace the steering or anything unless it is not up to snuff on this boat, I'd just like to know what I've got. The steering is nice and tight and although it isn't a "no feedback" setup I have no trouble with control at 50 mph and trimmed out.

I read somewhere that on high performance boats that a two cable setup is recommended over the singles. Is this perhaps referring to what I have? I regularly reach 50 mph and will be making modifications this Spring in hopes of going faster and I'd like to consider the safety items along the way.
I've not seen a single cable steering, no feedback or otherwise, that is rated for anything over 50 mph. What do the bass boats use?

Thanks!
