What type of thread?

Does anybody know what type thread is on the eye bolt that goes on the end of an alignment tool. The female thread on the alignment tool is a little messed up, so it seems and I wanted to chase it, but I have no idea what tap to use. Is it metric or inch ??? Btw. I lost the eye bolt. If I hadn't I would know. I tried to upload a picture for clarity but that failed.

Don't know but unlikely to be metric.

I found out in the meantime. It's 3/8"-16
