Hello Guys. I looked at a 1987 85hp evinrude having the selectric shift. I saw one last year. I thought the selectric shift went out in the early 70s.?? The title on the '87 85hp stated it was indeed a 1985. I didn't take the time to check the numbers. Does any one have some information? Also, I thought I read that the selectric shift can be a lot of problems.

Thanks in advance.

Electric shift units are actually very good and very reliable !-------Electric shift was last used on outboards in 1972.------Newer contol boxes for the mechanical / oil pressure shift units say either " power pilot " or " powershift II " many folks have confused that with electric shift.

I don't believe there was an 85hp in 1987, so you'll need to double check the model number.

Agree, the last year for electric shift 85 hp was 1972. Possible someone misinterpreted the 1972 model number of 85293 as being a 1985 model. The last year for an 85 hp model was 1980.

Last year for the hub and spring was 1968 for " big " motors and 1970 for the 40 hp.
