what will clean white film off a black outboard?

I have a black Johnson motor and I cant seem to find anything that will take off a white colored exhaust film. Can anyone recommend a good cleaner that will get it looking new again? Thanks Bob

WD-40... Spray it on a rag and wipe off the crud.. Works for me on a black Merc.

If its hard water deposits...straight vineger or that CLR stuff...make sure you rinse the motor well afterwards. Waxing the motor with some kind of quicky spray automotive wax helps clean quicker at a later date also

Might try a mild polishing compound if the other suggestions fail to remove it. Just be careful and easy going with it. Colorback, at auto parts stores comes to mind.
