I,m replacing the transom in my boat (84 storm bass boat). What is anybody's thoughts on the use of marine grade plywood vs AC grade exterior plywood, both are made of Fir.

AC is ok as long as you can keep water from getting at it ie if you're planning to cover it with fiberglas. If it will be exposed to water, use Marine grade.

I used AC for my transom, in two layers with a layer of mat/resin in between, and screwed together with stainless screws spaced every eight inces or so. My original transom was only one inch of ply, so I used a layer of 3/4, mat/resin, and a layer of 5/8th, and sheathed the entire transom in with roving reinforcement and mat. Just remember if you decide to change thickness you have to take into account the splashwell, or it won't fit back on properly. Good Luck....

Marine!
A/C Ext is not the same due to the laminated core.
Marine core does not have knots and shakes in it.
Therefore much stronger than A/C Ext and the additional cost of the Marine.
