What type boat, size boat and engine would you consider the best combo for tubing. If you could pick any setup you wanted and you main goal was tubing, what would it be?

Tubing has about the least requirements on any boat, so I wouldn't use it as your sole decider. Heck, I've even floated on a tube pulled by a 28' sailboat! Pretty much any boat will pull a tube, my advice would be to decide what other features you want in a boat (bow rider, cuddy, center console - runabout, cruiser - pleasure, fishing - etc) and then grab a tube and go. Some of my favorite memories as a kid were tubing and skiing behind my dad's 14' aluminum - first with a 9.9, then an 18 hp Merc. That 18 would about rip our arms out cranking into turns. Happy hunting!

Yeah. You can tube behind just about anything. I've tubed behind I/O powered boats, outboard powered boats, pontoons, tri-hulls, deep-vee's, you name it.

About the only thing that I would say matters is that with an outboard boat you don't have a real convenient place to tie up a large tube. With an I/O, you can put the tube part in and part out of the boat at the stern for transporting to and from your tubing spot.

I have an outboard powered boat and a large tube (about 7 feet diameter) and I still haven't found a good way to transport the tube while going from dock to tubing spot.

best boat for tubing would be a 20' or so bowrider type boat with an I/O and a swim platform, and preferably with a V8. a similar inboard wakeboard boat would work very well too, although they often dont ride as nice.

like these other guys said, you can go tubing behind just about anything. but in my opinion these types of boats would be the best at it.

I used to have the perfect boat for tubing IMO. 1988 198F Chaparral. 19 1/2 ft bowrider with 150HP Evinrude outboard. Man I loved that boat. Still miss it. Pulled a tube and ski's great. Threw off a nice wake. Forget what prop I had on it but it was a monster out of the hole even with 3 adults and 2 kids in the boat and pulling 1. Would top out between 45-48 depending on load. Only thing I might change if I had another would be a 200HP O/B. ;)

Tubing for me is boring, but my kids LOVE it....and for kids, I think nothing is better than a jet boat, like the Yamahas or Sugar Sands....very safe, and they can turn REAL sharp to give a good (and scary) tube ride to the adults.

I think the tube is more important than the boat. Just bought a Sportsstuff Big Mable and my son and his friends just loved it. I even let my son drive and rode it myself and it was a BLAST!!!
