I have a camper I need to seal some edges on, it developed a small leak over the winter along on edge of the gutter trim, I was thinking something that we use on boats might be the ticket to seal it up to prevent the leak from returning? I know I used to some stuff on the boat last summer and thought I had kept the tube, but for the life of me, I can't find it, it dried real quick and has not leaked at all on the boat. 5200? Maybe?

If it was 5200, It must have been Fast Cure to dry quickly. Regular cure takes up to 7 days and is runny.

3M makes a 4000 UV which is UV resistant. Maybe a better choice since the gutter would have a lot of sunlight exposure.

Re: What would you use?

I stumbled across this material a couple years ago while installing eavestough and have found more and more uses for it. Not really sure WHAT it is but it sticks like nothing I have seen before and stands up to the outdoors very well. It is sold as gutter sealant. It's white and very easy to apply. I have used it to seal the roof vent on my camper, and holes on the camper roof where I installed a set of roof racks. I've glued the sole of my runners back on etc etc. This stuff is like the duct tape of sealants and best of all its really cheap compared to the 3M 4000 and 5000 products.

You would be better to go to RV.net forums and ask that question. Most people on that forum would recommend "Eternabond Tape". There are various sealants in caulk tubes you can use that are for RV roofs but it depends on what type of roof material you have and whether you're going to use it on a horizontal or vertical surface.

At the orange bucket store, back with the gutters and downspouts are the tubes of caulk. Flash something or other, clear. Instant waterproof and workable with a wet finger. Prep of course is vital. It will seal as good as the dirt you put it on.

Well cobalt, I am not going to the RV forums, and I am going to stay right here, talking with the people that deal with water day in and day out.

My other toy is a motorhome....

Really three options:
a) Eternabond tape to patch over the seam.
b) RV Pro-Flex is a sealant in a caulk tube.
c) Liquid roof is a liquid rubber you paint on. It dries rubber! You can buy it in a quart. My motorhome has a rubber roof and I used 4 gallons of this stuff to re-coat my roof including all the edges leading to my gutters. Check into this stuff, that is the way to go!

Old school camper builders used butyl tape along the seams.

And I purchased a roll of that yesterday, to redo the gutter, I was wanting to seal the seam once I have the new tape under the gutter rail.
