What Year 15 HP Envinrude and Seal Question

Have an Evinrude 15 HP kicker on my cuddy but I am not sure what year it is. Number on freeze plug is E15RCUD (also E0657608). Tried to go to the "new" Evinrude site to research it but couldn't find a link. Does anyone have a cross reference? <br /><br />Also, the seal behind the prop must be leaking. Took the boat out last week and I noticed there was gear oil coming out from behind the prop after I got home. Looks like I need to pull the prop, take off a few bolts, and hopefully the seal will be easy to replace? <br /><br />Anyway, thanks in advance for any help you can provide.<br /><br />\<br />the number but could not

Hi Fishrite<br />Your motor is a 1987 model. OMC used the word introduces. The I=1 and the s=0. Your c=8 and the u=7 etc. If you will post your email address I will try to send you all you'll need to know about replacing that seal.

Alcan gives good information. Let me add something. Before you replace the seal, you might check the lower unit gear oil. If the seal is leaking, it is probably letting water in and the oil will be milky colored. If the oil is clear, you may not need to replace the seal at this time. In a thru-hub exhaust, you get all kinds of unburned fuel and carbon residue coming out, mixed with water. That is what you may be seeing, and it would be normal. Don't fix it if it ain't broke.
