I bought a 9.9 Johnson that is not running for a parts motor. It is missing the serial # plate. I need to know what year model it is. On the front side of the cowling it says Mag Flash CD. Can anyone narrow it down from that? or is there any other way to find out. There are other numbers on the engine itself but I assume that they are just casting numbers. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

look for a round disc size of a quarter, with numbers on it.

My father had a 15 HP that stated the same thing on the motor. I believe his was from the 1980's. Sorry I cannot be more specific.

I think they used the MagFlash trademark in the late 1970s. Same basic motor was built from about 1977 to the mid 1980s with that magneto...

The 1974 thru '76 motors had dual points Energy Transfer ignition. I think it was 1977 when they came out with the first CD ignition on the 9.9-15hp motors.

Thanks seahorse5. That narrows it down close enough for me to part it out on ebay.
