What year? and water pump question

Hey guys, i'm a mercury guy so i dont know alot about Johnsons. But my neighbor gave me a boat and trailor with a Johnson Electramatic Super Seahorse 40HP. <br /><br />The Model # is RK-24 and the serial # is 342874.<br /><br />What year is it? <br /><br />And, are there supposed to be 2 gaskets for the water pump? The lower end was apart when i got the boat and there is only the one metal gasket? <br /><br />Thanks!

Hi merc<br />Your motor is a 1962 model. There are no gaskets for the water pump empeller housing ( pump housing to lower unit). Starting from the crank shaft down, there is an o-ring (drive shaft to crank shaft), another o-ring, larger, fits to the top of the pump housing, a seal, fits in top of pump housing, pump housing, empeller, key, plate. There is one gasket for the water tube attachment cap, this piece also holds the water tube grommets.
