What year are these motors?

I have two outboats that I need info on:<br /><br />Buccaneer 5 hp model 5S12B, serial 642582<br /><br />Johnson Seahorse 18 hp model FD-11K serial 1677309<br /><br />What year are these? Where can I find manuals for them?<br /><br />Any info on these is greatly appreciated.

Yo, Moto, Your FD-11K is a 1957. The old Johnson manuals I have were found at flea markets and garage sales and were stolen for a buck to five. Before I found these I used the local libraries at nearby towns.<br /><br />Red sky at night. . . .<br />JB

Can't help you on your "BUC" but this is what I came up with on:<br /><br />Johnson Seahorse 18 hp model FD-11K serial 1677309<br /><br />My reference book indicates this:<br /><br />FD-14 1960<br />FD-15 1961<br />FD-16 1962<br />FD-17 1963<br />FD-18 1964<br />FD-19 1965<br /><br />So would it be safe to assume that this is true???:<br /><br />FD-11 1957<br />FD-12 1958<br />FD-13 1959<br /><br />Plus my master catalog shows dates of 1951-1973 for 18 HP Johnson...<br /><br />I hopes this helps... but I quess I have to but a disclaimer in on it...!!!<br /><br />Good Luck on the "BUC"

FYI...<br /><br />You're correct JB...Buccaneer (built by OMC) debuted in 1950. Originally it was intended to be a low priced outboard to be sold by sporting goods and hardware stores. Eventually, the Buccaneer became a model of the Gale line (Also OMC built)...second to the larger Gale Sovereign model.<br /><br />Walt<br /><br />PS I don't claim to be an OMC buff...I'm just relaying what Peter Hunn wrote in his "The Old Outboard Book".

Hmmm. I guess I'll continue to associate with you guys anyway. <br /><br />I was a strict OMC guy for 50 years until they couldn't deliver the EFI 70 4 stroke they advertized. So I went and bought it from the people who made it. When it is out of warranty (3 years) I think I'll have the Evinrude decals put on the cover.<br /><br />BTW, it is black. I have been trying to figure it out but all my leads have run into a dead end... maybe you guys can answer because GF wants to get something to eat!!!<br /><br />It is a Model 20A / APE 20 HP (653)... Thanks guys, I'm brand new to this stuff. I've had these outboards for three years and haven't done a thing with them. I can't get the Seahorse to start, but I used the Buc this weekend. I need to get them tuned up. All your info was great thanks again.<br /><br />motocoach

Here's something you might want/need to know about that little Buc. They got the Royal treatment. If you look at the cylinder access plates on her you'll see she has the Bosses to mount a fuel pump. Remember a 55' was deep in the pressure tank era, but that engine has a fuel tank on top.....Now figure that out???
