What year is my 175 Evinrude?

I have a 175 Evinrude Model Number 175840C.<br /><br />I have some info showing it as a 1975. However, it has sticker (on the spark advance arm) saying 1978 175 HP Spark Advance 28 degree. <br /><br />Other identifying info is 2448 cc on the lower unit.<br /><br />Looking to track down the year so I can get an OEM manual and get to work on it.<br /><br />Thanks,

Welcome snagroms!<br /><br />Thats a 1978 you have there.<br /><br />OEM service manuals reprints can be had from the Ken Cook Co. They are on line.<br /><br />Or try MarineEngine.com.

OBJ Thanks for the info. Any general comments about motor? Good or Bad? Things to watch out for or good to know about?

Good engine...little on the gas hungry side. Sounds like a new motor for you....so...<br /><br />It would be wise to check her top to bottom.<br /><br />Spark, compression, lower unit. Look at the carbs and fuel lines. If the carbs havn't been touched for a while, take the time to pull them and clean/rebuild. Also replace any fuel lines that are hard.<br /><br />Pay close attention to the fuel pumps. This system for these engines were adequate at best. Make sure the supply is tight. The service manual will tell you how to do the job and check the fuel pumps.<br /><br />As with any engine, the better you treat it, the better it'll treat you. Use the service manual. And of course....the iboats forums....

OBJ. Yep the motor is new to me. Carbs do look a little rough. The motor did run back in Oct with some coughing so I will take your advice and work the fuel side. Also a good check up overall. Thanks for the replies!
