Re: What year is my Evinrude 70?

Gotta agree w/ Rex. I have a 1973 65hp and the model is 65373R. I could not find my owners manual but I think the "R" means long shaft.
Hey, mine is new to me so I don't know how long it has done it, or if it did it before I replaced the water pump, but I get alot of water squirting out the drain notch where the lower unit meets the upper (in front).
Does yours do that ? Mine seems to pump fine as I get water from the exhaust reliefs and the lower outlets.

Give me a shout...........

Rod Holder

You asked this question in former thread. I just started up my old 1974 25Hp i rebuild this winther. I can tell you,it does too. Water runs like from a slow crane, from the two holes just beyond the bolt lewel, where the lower unit bolts on. But lots of water at thermostat. ( you can check cooling by removing thermostat cover on smaller models) I guess this water leves the pump through a worn waterpump housing, at shaft, as i only replaced impeller.

According to my records V2 you have a 1979 engine. Evinrude 70hp model numbers 70973 thru to 70979 were manufactured during 1979.

Mike
