what year is my Mariner 8HP

Can't find a data plate. only info is decal on transom mount bracket that reads "made in Japan for Mariner International C. Fond Du Lac, Wis, USA" Where else can I look? The cover has single orange strip around both sides and front, On front is big square white decal with big orange 8 on it. Several major components inside begin with the No. 6770.

There should be a welsh plug on the block somewhere on that engine that has a serial number. It will look kind of like a freeze plug.
