What year is my Merc O/b 90hp Thunderbolt engine?

Hello. I've had a previous post on this forum regarding replacing the lower unit of my Mercury outboard 90hp Thunderbolt Inline 6 engine. I just picked up the boat (from my parents - they said it was a 1975)...so I just looked at the SN and it doesn't seem to match that year, according to what I've referenced online. The SN is 1893115 - also the block is stamped Tiger. I really need to know the year of this for replacing/fixing the lower end. <br />Thanks in advance...<br />-kary

Merc parts site says that isn't a good number.

Yes, this is strange. I wrote down all of the numbers I could find on the engine. I found 1893115 on the clamp (i guess it's called) that attaches the engine to the boat and then again on part of the engine. On the block (next to Tiger) this number appears: 836-2486. Another on the bottom of the engine compartment: 21152458. Also found various numbers but they were either only 5-6 digits in length.

Just found online:<br /><br />Kiekhaefer Merc Outboard<br />This model was painted all "Phantom Black." <br />The serial number was on a plate riveted to the swivel bracket above and between the clamp screws. <br />Serial numbers 1766824 thru 1932825 were 1965 models. <br />Merc 900E Short Shaft, Electric Starting with Alternator and Merc 900EL Long Shaft, Electric Starting with Alternator models were produced.<br /><br />So I must have a 1965 Merc 900E.

Ok...not sure what horsepower my engine is now! Hope someone can help me! My step-dad did NOT know anything about this engine. The previous post, I found this page online which shows it to be a 1965 90hp. http://www.oldmercs.com/1965merc900.htm <br /><br />However, now found another listing at http://www.maxrules.com/graphics/merc_pdf/merc_page32.pdf that shows my engine may be a 1966 95 hp. <br /><br /> CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME? I'm having a lower end rebuilt for me (right now) with a 90hp gear ratio! My serial number is:<br />1893115.<br /><br />My manual does not have serial numbers listed in it. THANKS!
