What year is my Mercury?

It is a 9.8hp motor. Serial number 1615122. I bought it for $50 and do not know much about boat motors, can anyone tell me what year this is and if this was a good deal? I took a risk. I was told it ran good last year then was stored over the winter. Any information will help. Thanks.
