What year is this motor?

Currently I run a 1967 Chrysler 35 on a 14' fiberglass boat. With my wife and me in the boat with our fishing gear, I get about 25 mph, according to my friend's speedo in his boat. How much difference in power would be noticeable if I rebuilt the 45 HP and threw it on the same boat?

I knew the 45 had a blown piston, so I thought I would rebuild it. I took the motor apart today and discovered the crankshaft is broken. I'm not sure on the cost of rebuilding it, but I'm tempted to do it. Simply, to avoid buying a used motor from somebody I don't know. Any thoughts from some of the experienced guys (Frank?) would be appreciated. Is it worth my while to rebuild the 45?

Well, you need to find a 45 crank. The 35, 45, and 50-55 all had different strokes. The cranks will swap but the horsepower will be different.

Then, you need to find pistons for the 45. Franz may have them but it will be expensive. So, costwise, rebuilding will be iffy. If it were mine I would probably use it for parts.

I do have a 45 crank that someone sold me on ebay as a 55 crank and I have not used it. But, I don't remeber where I put it and would probably need to search for days to find it.

Your main problem would probably be condition of the block due to the broken crank, and finding a piston--which I also THINK I have one of, complete with rod.

Thanks Frank. As you know, I value your opinion, so I will consider your words, for sure!! Incidentally, can you tell me what year it is?

Send me a PM if you are interested in parts--read my edits. As to year, all I can say is early. If it is a long shaft and the midleg has a 5 inch spacer, it is earlier than 1970
