What year is this merc and is it any good???

The serial # is A725361 I believe it is a 45hp(I've tried to reserch the no. but can't seem to reference it), also is this model Mercury a good motor It's on a 18 ft steel hull will it be enough motor.

It is a 4cyl , 1987 model<br /><br />45hp is probably a bit small for an 18ft steel hull boat though. All depends on what your intending to use the boat for I suppose.<br /><br />Steel is far heavier than aluminum, and many 18ft aluminum boats I see have well in excess of 80HP on them.

sgd This 4cyl Merc is probably the best ever made. My dad used to run the earlier version the Mark 58 back in the 50's. I have friends who use them on pontoon boats and love them. Keep it cool and run good gas/oil in it and your grandkids will enjoy it too! Most of these have problems due to neglect.
