I bought a 150 hp Mariner today for 1000 dollars. The compression on all six cyclinders are 115-120. The owner is unsure of the year and the motor has not been ran since 1991 (the last year it was register). The serial number is 6494246. Did I get a good deal or not?

As stated above, time and use of the motor will tell you if you got a good deal. NADA list average retail for $355, but it has no bearing on an outboard that has limited use or in above average shape.

Well, I'd say if it starts up, and you hit the throttle, and it pegs you to your seat, then yes, maybe you got a good deal. Hard to say though just based on the compression numbers. Let us know what happens when you turn the key!
