What year Merc? '78?

I was just given a 20hp Mercury outboard! I know it's not new, but the price was right.<br /><br />Anyway, I want to start doing some tlc to the old girl, but first I need to know what year it is. <br /><br />The serial number is 4820443. I'm guessing at a '78.

Thanks for the verification. <br /><br />Would it be hard to convert this thing into a tiller? It has controls and steering, but my boat isn't set up for that and I want to use it to fish. I think all I need is a handle.
