what year mustang transmission is this???

I purchased a transmission which was sold as a rebuilt mustang trans. but the year was unknown csan anyone help? Here are the numbers on the trans. (they are hard to read) HED 8D 5-C 05 .

It was sold as a older mustang tranny however no year was known or given and it was too sweet a deal to pass up considering it was rebuilt.

Can you post a picture of it. Bellhousing and pan will be the best. If you can not post a picture, study the pan contours and the number of pan bolts. Then go to an auto parts store and ask to look at a transmission filter chart. You can probably identify it that way....If its an automatic.

The "8D" should be the engeneering date which is 1978. So the trans could have been manufactured any time after 1978 untill another engeneering change took place then the casting will have that date on it.
