I think I'm losing it, I can't remember what year(s) Johnson/Evinrude had the "Fuel Mixture 100:1." sticker on the engine's.

A friend of mine bought a 25 HP. Johnson, cleaner upper, with a very low time. The serial # / model # plaque is missing, but there are no holes where it should have been screwed to the engine. On the powerhead, there is a fresh appearing, which could be original, as the power head looks like new, freeze plug, with only a multi digit number, without the word's, Ser#. or Mod#. before the number's.

Does anyone remember what period of time the 100:1 fuel mixture was in effect, as my buddy need's the aproximate year model for his part's purchace. The engine is white, with the standard logo's.

Bob,

Post the numbers on the core plug. They are not identified as Mod and Serial numbers, but they are.

Re: What year(s) was..........

Thank you SM.........I'll call my buddy in the morning to get the number's, as he work's evening's.

On the freeze plug, there were no letter's with the number's and only one line of number's, with what looked like a manufacture's logo, which I didn't recognize. I have a feeling is an aftermarket, or a replacement freeze plug, that's why I was trying to recall what year(s) "JonnyRude" advised owner's to use a 100:1 fuel/oil ratio.

Thank's again.......... ...Bob in Calif...

SM...............

The number on the freeze plug is: ...0433472... There is the letter "M", circled, on the freeze plug, but I suspect that would mean for marine use.

I have a number of engine ID site's, but I couldn't locate anything for the number's listed.

The "M" in the square with rounded corners and the angled sides is the OMC logo. That number is the part number for the powerhead. Serial numbers are 7 digits.

433472 is the powerhead part number for a 1990-92 18 Jet, 20, 25, 28, 30 rope, 35 rope.

SM...........

Thank you very much. My buddy's lower unit on his 25 is totaly shot and would cost him over $700.00 part's and labor. His power head has apx.100 hours on a complete rebuild.

I found the, now known 90'-92', complete engine, with a 20" shaft, in an online ad. The engine had been sitting in fresh or brackish water for several month's, showing some discoloration. The power head doesn't look like it's been used for more that 10 or 15 hours!!! After being removed from the water, the engine was stored, untill the recent, former owner bought and didn't use at all.

Compression is excellent as well as the conditon of the engine overall. He picked up the engine, (with a 20" shaft), a 6 gallon metal tank and a brand new OMC tank to engine fuel line for $250.00..........Sweet deal!!!!!

Thank's again for you asistance....... ...Bob in Calif...

As to the 100:1 ratio. for a few years OMC did recommend this but they sent out a Service Bulletin saying 50:1 was recommended.

The 100:1 was not enough oil for infrequent use. (not enough oil on the bearings when sitting)

Thank you DHP...........

I was aware of that "recall" of the gas/oil ratio change. I was just using the 100:1, as a year time frame, to get an Idea of what year the Johnson is, that my buddy bought. It has the 100:1 sticker on the housing, that's why I asked what year(s) the 100:1 mixture refered to.

Thank you for your reply...... ...Bob in Calif...
