I have a 1993 Procraft Super 180 that has a Mercury Black Max 175 on it. I am not sure of the motor year, but the serial # is 6523566. The previous owner bought the boat new so I assume this is a 92 or 93 engine but I want to be sure.
I am having a overheating problem at the moment. The
motor has a low water pickup from bob's machine. The motor quickly warms up, as I begin to plane off the over heat buzzer comes on. The temperature gauge levels off in the middle but the buzzer never goes off. However, if I stop moving, the temp gauge rises. I am assuming the water pump and thermostats need replacing. Is this an easy fix? I have never worked on an outboard but many a car have I worked on. What service manual is recommended? Thanks a bunch.

Not sure on year, others will know...

If you can turn some wrenches, you can do the work. A good Manual and advice from members here if you get stuck will get you through it....

You can get a Factory Manual here. A bit more, but worth every penny...

appcenter.mercurymarine.com/litreq/orderForm.jsp?type=ob

Re: What year serial #6523566

After talking to mercury, I found out the serial number on the midsection matches up with a 1984 200 h.p. engine. The covers show black max 175. Is there another place the serial number will be show? or do I have an 84 200h.p. engine with 175 covers? Is there a chance that maybe the midsection was replaced and everything else is still a 93 model?
