I have a merc 60 hp ser# a140966 and have a chance to get a 80 hp merc ser # 6234624 what year are these moters and if all things are good such as compression, cleanleness water test ect would it be a good idea to upgrade from the 60 to the 80 ? and could i boost the 80 by changing the carb or the jets to get more out of it? I was able to do this on a merc 7.5 and put 9.9 jets in it.

I'd venture to say that the 80hp is model year 1983.. <br /><br />The 60hp model year 1985..<br /><br />All things being good, I'd go for the swap..<br /><br />As for boosting hp on the 80 with a jet swap, not gonna happen and not worth the risk...
