Re: What year?

I believe that would be and early to mid 70's because of the rub strip on the side of the hull, they did away with them around 76-77, and yes it is an Islander.

$600 w/ the 'correct' Mercruiser keyhole:

Trailer maybe too but the rims/tires are definitely worked. Esp the starboard front tire.

But certainly looks like a great start for a project.

Re: What year?

boat may have some warts (missing paperwork?) as it has been on CL for quite some time ...surprising at that price.

Noticed that rim too. Hard to tell from the pic but the hub looks awfully low like the rim is bent

I think the tires no longer seated on the rim, so the rim is sitting basically on the ground, causing the axle to droop. Look at the front bearing cover, it seems to be sticking out of the rim the same as the rear bearing cover.

I don't think the axle's bent, but bearings, tires & probably the rims all need some attention before it goes very far. The rear tire looks like it's probably dry rotted some as well...

Re: What year?

Zooming in, it seems there is a HIN plate on the upper starboard transom, under the corner cap. Hard to tell for sure, but that would make her 1972 or newer until the lower rub rails were discontinued.

I saw the popped tire/rim when she was posted in the CL/ebay for sale threads. This ad has been up for a month or more, but updated 10 days ago.

She seems to have most of the transom hardware for a MerCruiser. Too bad the ad doesn't have some interior shots.

Greenbm - If you don't live too far away, it might be worth swinging by for a look see. All you can do is say thanks for the showing by the owner. Or maybe have a couple Benjies sticking out of your pocket. :) I think cash and not a lot of it talks in a situation like this. If the seller starts the scrap value talk, ask him if he knows? Most think the scrap value is about 300% than it really is.

Ga You are on the money with your assessment of that, the seller of mine started at $1200 I offered $700 he then informed me that scrap value on it was $850, I informed him that scrap value on it was closer to $250.00 that was where negotiations stopped for 2 weeks. Clean aluminum scrap at the time I think was $.35 per pound I would not call what I drug home clean aluminum.

Don't negotiate on anything other than what you are willing to pay.

Re: What year?

might be worth checking that per-pound figure for your area before you go look at it. surely someone here can give a tolerable guesstimate of the amt of aluminum in a 21' Islander/chieftain.

boat and trailer both look like they've seen a lot of salt water use. check closely for corrosion and crackage
