Hi all. Im supposed to help fix a neighbors outboard but we cant find a data plate or the little round plug thing on the engine with any numbers on it to indicate year.

Its a 40hp Evinrude Worktwin tiller motor. It doesn't have electric start and doesn't seem to be electric start compatible as the wheel has no teeth to grab. It looks just like the image in the link.

The tiller handle has a metal accelerator handle to turn. Not sure if that's original or not.

Re: What year?

cant be. Im looking at the plate. That means they stamped it wrong.... Unless it was built in 1980 as a 81 model of the commercial motor series? IDK

Says outboard marine corp of Canada. So its a OMC tag and that's the exact model number on the tag

I cant even find that model number on marine engine.com or anything really close....

Re: What year?

If you google that entire part number only to links to ebay pull up and one is some guy selling some instructions for a 1980 model and in his description it says its for this model number... But the rest of his post isn't in English.lol
