I have a 9.9hp Johnson outboard that wasnt stored properly and has been sitting for quite a few years. The mod # is 10R74S S/N E3957005 Id like to find out what years are compatable with 74 and I'm also under the idea that the 15 horse has some interchangeable parts. Is there charts anywhere that will show years and horsepower compatability of Jonson/Evinrude engines? I'm thinking it might be cheaper to find another used outboard and put them together to get 1 working and use other as parts.

You may have some decades of different year models to play with in that case!
The key is the base gasket to make it fit on the exhaust housing and the drive shaft fit in the crank shaft!!! Some variations in choke system, carburators and exhaust systems, but everything is close to possible.

Well after doing some research on my own I found a very informative site that answered my questions and more. I decided to post my findings here in hopes that it might help the next person. To answer my own post i found that from 1974-1977 the 9.9 are identicle after 77 they got rid of points ignition system and there were small changes every 3 years or so till 1992.the website I found is here

Im not sure if found this site from another post from iboats or if I found it via search engines but here it is. With all the researching and reading I've been doing last month its all a vague blur anymore.
