What year did they switch from shearpins to clutches? Who was the first? When did Evenrude switch.. I have a late 50's 18 hp and I love it except for the shearpin. On the river they call me Cpt. Shearpin if that tells ya anything.. I'm new to this site, Thanks

sounds as if you are not using the OEM shear pins. the change came in different years on different HP motors. drive (shear) pins are still used in the small hp motors.

You should be using a 3/16" diameter stainless steel DRIVE pin. Your prop has a rubber cushion between the bronze hub and aluminum blades part. Yeah, I know, you can't see it but it is in there.
