I have a 1984 Wellcraft 210 Elite, with Chevy 350 and Alpha One.

I need new gimbal bearing and seals, probably new impellor, there was water in bellows so they have to be replaced, and the u-joints will be inspected and I can hopefully re-use. Possibly the seal behind the u-joints, because the oil in outdrive was a little milky. Also, the shifter was sticking (shutting off into neutral) so they will adjust/replace it.

Just wondering the best and worst case senario's with regards to $$ on my part. Oh, the Mercruiser authorized dealer is my Cousin, so I may get a slight break, but I'm not asking for one. This is why I'm asking questions here about the $$ and time involved.

Thanks in advance.

Re: What's it going to cost me?

if the yoke is not damaged the ujoints are 50 bucks a pop or so. the bellows kit is about 180 or so and a shift cable kit is about 80 or so.
barring saltwater corrosion a bellows, gimbal and ujoint replacement with a seal on the yoke and a water pump kit with a shift cable replacement is about 6 hours. usually its cheaper if you purchase the kit with the bellows and gimbal bearing.

Re: What's it going to cost me?

I was hoping to keep it under $1000, guess we'll see. My Cousin did tell me if I'd do some of the work with his tools it would be cheaper for me (instead of me having to pay for a mech to do it), but since I am working too much OT right now, I just want my boat back. Don't want to spend my time off working on my boat, just want to use my boat. Although, ordinarily, I'd love to help out, watch and learn from the pro's... but I don't think I can find the time.

So you guys think $1000 should do it? I hardly use this boat in salt water, but do sometimes.

Bondo, I would have thought with all your wisdom, you were a marine mechanic. I know you've helped me in the past. Thanks.
