Can anyone tell me the "all up" weight of a GM 2.5-3.0 Mercruiser with accessories, (manifold, carb, alt, starter, bell housing and front motor mount, etc.). Need to know how far to take the weight training before I pull it out:D! Need to plan the lift and need an idea to arrange for the hoist to use. Thanks for the help.

hmmm... the way i read that its with a complete drive, gimbals and transom plates.
The drive weighs about 80... the transom plates and gimbals... maybe another 50 max. add in some other stuff....
maybe the motors closer to 400...

Re: What's it weigh??????????

I'm sitting here thinking to myself.... I can pick up and walk around with a 350 with a crank in it.... its heavy but i can do it..... I read once that a fully dressed 350 (automotive) is 575.... so my thought process was that a 2.5/3.0 is probably a little more than half that.

Re: What's it weigh??????????

Thanks all! It looks like if I work up to it slowly I would be able to lift it out by about 2015 or thereabouts.............. Guess I'll just have to do it the hard way and get a engine hoist;) It looks like a 1/4 ton would probably do but will opt for 1000# capacity instead. I really believe that it must weigh near the 500# area as a 125 hp outboard weighs between 300 and 400 depending on make and model and the cast iron is FAR heavier than the aluminum. Thanks again.

Re: What's it weigh??????????

That is why the weight was important as the cranes (hoists) adjust and like all lifting apparatus' the farther from the pivot you reach the less you can pick! ;) This will give me the basis for what I will need. Height should not be a problem as all the models looked at have sufficient height. Also it is a relatively small boat.:( Have to clear 57" and can lift the tongue and probably reduce that by a foot or more. Sure would be easier if I could just pick it up :D..............Oh well.
Thanks all!
