Hi Bill<br />I have found that it is the sellers responsabilty to set the asking price. I never make an offer first. If the sellers price is reasonably near ball park, I will inspect the motor carefully, trying as hard as I can to justify his price. Never go into a deal figuring your going to beat the pants off the seller. When buying from a private party always figure you are going to have to spend at least another $100. for service and inspection. I believe you are way better off to get the best condition than the best price. OK, what is ball park? For this figure you will have to shop your area. I like you use the local dealer's asking price. I know that they go over the motors before they put them on the rack for sale, some will offer some type of warrentee. So buying a comperable motor from a private party I would expect to pay something less.
