whats it worth?

boat/motor/trailer are all from the late 80's. It is a 14ft aluminum rivited jon boat it is very wide. in decent shape not sure of make or model. The motor is a suzuki 30 hp tiller motor. I believe it is a 2 cylinder model. Although from the 80's it looks brand new and runs great. The trailer was recently scraped down and repainted. It has one axle and pretty big tires. I am thinking of buying the boat. The guy wants $1700. is this a fair price? if not what should i offer him? any help would be appreciated. thank you.

i doubt your going to get many responses to this since its really a personal choice, and nobody here really knows the condition of the boat and motor. but here's what i'd probably offer, since this aint the best time of year to sell a boat, if i liked it. i would offer him $1000 - $1200 and see what happens. <br />what he's asking may or maynot be a fair price, i dont know.

In my area I see 12 foot aluminum boats with 10 horse motors for for $1200-$1500. I also see bigger boats go for the same price. I would try to talk him down, but if everything is pristine and the motor runs great, you probably won't get much lower than the asking price. Definately take it for a sea trial before purchasing, it might look good, and may run good on a hose, but it could be a dog out on the water. Good luck...
