Well spun a rod bearing sat. on the 4.3 merc then come to find out i
have the wrong drive on the boat its a 1.98 ratio.I have little money in the boat what should i do sell the drive or re-gear it for the v6 or go v8 since ill have to get a new drive anyways and it was origanlly a v8

The 1.98 is the gear ratio for an inline 4
You need a lower unit for a V6, not a 4 or a V8

It would also help to know what drive you have, and maybe a year.

90 alpha one i want to put the v8 back in it i found a 305 going to convert to marine This shouldnt be a problem right as long as i use marine gaskets and check cam specs but the drive can i just replace lower or just get a reman

Did you read what Don posted??? That 1.98 drive is for a four banger. Going from a 6 to a v8 is not going to help. The v6 drive is closer to the 1.98 than a v8. Sounds like you have already made up your mind tho. Goodluck.

Yah tired of messing with the different parts and not matching parts sell the drive i have and get one for the v8 and put the 5.0 in it and hopefully go boating!!!!!

I would do the v-8 then. either find a compatible drive or get a new SEI drive with a warranty.
