Hi all,
I have a '96 force 120 on a 17' cc sea hunt. The whole boat has a vibration when running. There seems to be alot play when I manually wiggle the motor, so I am assuming it is somthing in the tilt assembly or mounting brackets. I am just not sure what these parts are called. I am trying to do a little price checking before I take it in to the shop. I have a repair manual on the motor but it doesnt cover this aspect in detail.
Thanks,
Mike

You don't say if the motor is shaking on the transom, just that the boat is shaking.

How does it run?
How is the prop?
Is it firing on all 4 cylinders?
Are your wide open throttle rpm still as high as they were before?

The boat has been sitting for a year so I do have some other work to do. This problem started before it sat though. The motor did seem to run fine. Idled fine and started right up. Its not a violent shake, just a vibration felt throughout the entire boat. It was not always there. When I manully wiggle the motor is some play normal or should it be firm?

Oh yea almost forgot. If I'm cottect in thinking the transom is where the motor physicaly attaches to the boat everything there seems to be solid. There seems to be alot of play on the shaft that the motor pivets side to side on.

The first thing I would check is the steering cable, where it is connected to the motor.

Can you see the motor moving, when the boat is shaking?

Is the boat an aluminum one with a plywood transom? Transom could be rotted, knee could be busted. Does it only do it at one speed or through out the whole speed spectrum? My anchor mount resonates at about 4000 rpms and goes away at 4200. It creates a vibration you are describing.
