I've heard a lot of talk on color of boats and fish. Someone said white bottom boats look like big fish and scare fish away?? true? I see a lot of yellow kayaks out there, but then again, there are camo, orange, green, etc etc etc..

I'm looking to buy two really nice fishing kayaks for some local lakes this summer when I get my tax return and would like to make the best choices possible. I know everyone here is into boats, but possibly the color factor carries over. ??

ideas? thoughts?

thanks

Un-less the fish are right near the kayak, color might have little effect to the fish.

But color is critical to other boaters seeing you!

A camo or green kayak just blends into the shore line.

Be safe, ALWAYS wear a PFD!

Definitely wearing a life vest. Never even sat on a kayak before, but know a guy in a float tube club who works at the local bass pro shop. Going to try and get him to go out with me and show me the ropes on kayak fishing in smaller lakes.

So safety first, and try to stay away from camo and green. Cool.

What about the white and stone grey compared to bright yellow and orange?

Bright for safety, and ugly so no one wants to steal it. Chartreuse with orange and pink stripes should do it!

Unless you are only fishing vertically I wouldn't worry about it. Even then I wouldn't worry. You could always try to paint the bottom if you aren't too anal about keeping the kayak looking brand new.

Most kayaks hug the shore line, and colors fade, stone grey might blend into the shore line too.

Not that you might get run down, it's the wake from boats that would bother you.
I've come around turns in the river and barely see some off/dull colored kayaks hugging the shore line.

Bright colored yaks can be seen through trees on the shore line.

Try looking into buying your yak at a local shop, they offer lessons with the purchase, or wheel-n-deal for them!.
A buddy may know how but not able to teach!

They also know of specialty clubs of kayakers. There's numerous clubs on the NC coast just for sea kayaking and salt water kayak fishing.
