What's the best way to dispose of an unwanted hull

My local salvage yard says they may charge me as much as $300.00 to get rid of it if it doesn't have anything of value on it. It's got a good trailer, and some of the hardware left on it. It's a 16.9' SeaRay Seville open bow with rotten stringers. I can't believe it would cost that much to get rid of something. Anyone need a really big planter box? :D

If you have a local VoTech school donate it to them to teach fiberglass repair.

Thom

I had a 21 ft Century in the same condition. The interior was gutted. Took it to my Industrial complex and put a free sign on it. Got over 50! calls! Delivered it the next day. Make sure you lock the trailer and insist upon you delivering it.

There was one way someone got rid of their old boat, while I working on the railroad as a freight conductor someone left their old boat minus the hull number on the tracks, we hit it running 50 mph. Not much left of it after that.

Please don't do this, you will cause some poor railroad man a heart attack.

That boat was once upon a time someones pride and joy and therefore deserves a last ceremonial voyage .....plug optional. Two years latter it will be one of the most coveted fishing hotspots.

It couldn't possibly be more than a pickup load all cut up. Around here a pickup load of garbage can be thrown away for about $15...

Thats eazy, I got rid of three truck beds in one of our dumpers. Take a sawsall to it and go to town. You could do it in a weekend.

I like the idea of giving it to a tec school the best. I go to a Voc highschool myself. If you want to bring it to MA I'm sure the autobody shop would take it :D

Good luck.

BTW,
I know its not the right thing to do, but leaveing it on the side of the road would be eazy. Just take the VIN number off the transom and the registration numbers off the sides.

Drop it in the middle of the highway around rushhour and then watch on the 10:00 news what a traffic jam it caused ;) :D

Thanks guys!
I like the idea of donating it. From a distance the hull still looks pretty good. Unfortuately, it's full of foam and would take quite a bit of concrete to sink it. If the donation thing doesn't work, well I've always wanted a sawzall anyway. ;)

If you can't find a place to donate it, I bet it would sell on eBay. Just start the bidding at $1 and let it ride.

I have a friend that partially buried an old wooden cabin cruiser in his back yard next to the deck. He only buried up to the deck and used it for entertaining at barbeques. The kids used the cabin for a clubhouse and thought it was the greatest thing. :)

Advertise it over on the www.fiberglassics.com site - they love that stuff, particularly if it's free or nearly free!
eBay is also a good option. I bought a 15-footer off eBay last fall that some folks would likely have tossed in the trash or sunk to the bottom - and no, I'm not looking for another project!!
- Scott
