hi, im interested in a 99 wellcraft martinique 2400 (4500 lbs dry) that is for sale.. it has a 5.7L fuel injected engine (500 hrs) with the SP outdrive... i've read that volvo penta makes the SX, SP, and the 100 single prop outdrives..

my question is, what's the difference in the SX and the SP? does one have a bigger prop (like bravo 1, bravo 2)? are they geared different? should i prefer one over the other? any input would be appreciated

SX is the newer version of the SP. Some people think they are better, some don’t.

The SX drive has a Thru Prop Hub Exhaust, while most other VP drives don't. North America is where most of the SX Drives are sold. Very few Parts interchange. I think the SX Drive and Props are better suited for higher speed applications. To me the other VP Drives just look a bit Odd.

Volvo also makes a drive that has the Prop(s) in front of the Gear Case, I call it, The Trencher. As you tilt it up, it looks like the Draft needed actually increases.
