Bilge pumps are one place where it's OK to not use a breaker.

The Blue Sea breaker is "Ignition Protected" whereas the cheap breaker is not. Depending on where it is located "Ignition Protection" may not be an issue. The fact that the manufacturer chose that style of breaker says it probably should be replaced with the same type.

stang32, if your circuit breaker is mounted in your dash or helm area, most any type circuit breaker will work. Just stay with the amperage value and replace it. I like Klixon types and that IS what I am using myself. They are military approved and very good breakers as well. But I am mounting all mine in the dash area as well. JMHO

Whatever electrical device you install in the engine bay it had better be ignition protected. Does the word KABOOM have any significance for you? You showed a picture of a Blue Sea breaker. Go to Blue Sea web site and see where you can buy them. Chances are iBOATS has them as well. Tyco Electronics also has them.

stang32, the reason you want to use an ignition protected circuit breaker in the engine area is if there is ever any fuel fumes and the breaker breakers, it can create a tinny spark inside the breaker. And if the fumes have entered that areas, KABOOM could be the last thing you hear. So be safe and buy the certified appropriate circuit breaker as your replacement. Safety has to be number one!
