TD posted very similar one yesterday. Very true, a lot of folk most likely did not run fuel preserver at the end of last season and are paying the price now.

Unleaded gas is only good for about three months. After that, it starts getting gummy and watery. Ethenol makes it even worse. Fuel stablizer is more important than ever.

Just had mine rebuilt nd have toi do it again and replace my fuel lines my machanic said that the new fuel is eating away at the gas lines and causing them to clog the carbs

Funny, today I went and re-habbed a Coleman gas lantern that my dad brought up for me that hadn't been started in about 20 years. After unfreezing all of the valves and oiling the pump (I used to use it shrimping in the intercoastal), the SOB started right up, WITH THE OLD GAS THAT WAS IN IT! Guess the old Coleman white gas in the square metal can lasts a bit longer than today's unleaded...

mikejallen your mechanic is 100% correct. it softens the lines, the sluff off on the inside, this settles to the bottom of the bowls, where the high speed jet is, and the pick up tube for low speed. it is very fine, but builds up, sticking together. i see it everyday. it is even clogging primers.

ALCOHOL RESISTANT LINES from tank to carbs.

Ah-ha! Maybe that's why my 65 5hp runs a few times in a row then doesn't even fire if it sits for a week. I'm gettin' good at taking that carburetor off. Time to take the fuel lines off too.

Welcome to the ethanol world. Just wait until they go to E-15 later this summer. It's also good for prop sales - lots of folks have to go with less pitch with the weaker fuel.

Glad they still sell real gas in my neck of the woods. That will probably change. I honestly don't think they give a crap about what its doing to peoples motors, boat or car. Yeah its good for mechanics, prop sales and after people start blowing up their motors it will be good for new car and boat sales. Sounds like a great way to jump start the economy, blow up all the old stuff so people have to buy new. You got to love our government i tell ya, nazi's.

OK so then does anybody sell a "ethanol safe fuel system rebuild kit"?

Containing hoses and any other items that ethanol dissolves.

Most good carb kits have been coming with alchol resistant components for quite some tome now. The new fuel hose has a rating of A-1/15.

use 2 alcohol resistant hoses. zip tied together. the double hose is a special hose for outboards of the 1950's. fuel hose, and air hose, combined.
