whats wrong with my 80hp

I have a 69' 80hp 800 thunderbolt. I rewired the mercontols I had with one of those turn-key choke 6 connector ingitions. The motor wil turn over but I cant get it to start I pulled one of the plugs and put it on the block and see on spark if that works. I just wont fire. I did have it running before I rewired it. I had to rewire do to corrosion. Any ides or check list I can go down to fix the problem. Thanks

You probably have the wrong switch or it's wire improperly, there are more problems with people trying to use the aftermarket switches, most don't even have wiring diagrams for them

How can I test to se if it getting spark. Can pull one of the wires from the plugs and use a test light and turn the engine over. I dont think it is a fuel problem because I did have it running before I wired it.

To tell if it's the switch wiring go to the starboard side of the switch box the red terminal should have 12v at all times and when you turn the switch to the on position the white should have 12v also if it don't the the switch or wiring is to blame. To check for spark remove a plug when put it back on the wire ground the plug and turn the engine over.
