I am new to the pontoon boating. i have a 1997 beachcomer 24, with a 60hp johnson. i am having problems with the front of the pontoons pushing down. i have tried triming the motor up but will only pull the front up a little before the prop starts sucking air. the last time we took it out i had about 6 people on it and got them all to sit in the back, that made the front stay up put it started sucking air in the prop almost right away. the problem is that the front just push through the water and sprays water everywhere. the motor is a long shaft i think, it has an L in the model number. the motor is lowered all the way down on the holes and seems to sit about 1 inch below the transom. i have welded plugs in the toons so no water, i checked. Also there is a set of fins on the motor that i put onbut does not help. any ideas

Re: whats wrong

Something here just don't sound right. I can't rap my brain around it.
Have read the post 3 times, something just not right.
Ok, what all is in the front of the toon? middle forward.
you said something about , the motor is lowered all the way down on the holes and seems to sit about 1 inch below the transom.
What sits below the transom?

Most motors on pontoons are higher on the trasom.

You say you checked for water in the logs, make sure. the front section may have water in it or the font of the Toon is heavy with something.

pictures would help.

Doesn't make sense. With your passengers in the rear and therefore the rear being lower in the water, the chance of prop ventilation should be lessened. Definitely seems to be bow-heavy. By chance are you toon foam filled. If so, you may have saturated foam and would be hard to detect with usual "slosh test".

Re: whats wrong

sorry for the rambling on in the first thread. the motor is all the way down as far as the mounting holes , the cavation plate sits about 1 inch below the transom. there is no foam in the toons or no water. i just cant seem to get the front of the boat from plowing through the water. i know it doesnt make sense but is i move all the wait to the back it seems to vent. i will get pics, just tell me what to take pics of

Re: whats wrong

Did it do this before? If not what has changed.

Pics that will help are, of the boat sitting at the dock empty, then loaded before pulling out.

No dings or nicks on the prop? What kind of fin on the motor?

Also, don't use the trim to try to bring the pontoon nose up too much. Start with the motor ALL the way down against the stop, (make sure the stop bar is in the bottom hole avaialble to it). Trim up just enough to get the motor to come to neutral steering. Trimming out much more is not going to help bring the bow up. If you are trimmed out and the prop lets go of the water trim it down until that stops and stays gone.

If it is a new boat and motor set up make sure the prop is right for a 24 foot pontoon. I would say about a 15 pitch or maybe a 13 on that rig.

Re: whats wrong

What speed are you getting and what is your RPM? Is it possible you have a spun prop and not prop ventilation.
