1989 350 mercrusier alpha one

at half throttle before it makes it to plane, engine revs thrust is gone, pull back on throttle it reengages itself.

It feels likes it slips out of gear so it free spools, Pull the Throttle back it reengages itself without having to shift into neutral. No bad vibration or "cluck" it just looses drive ability.

Any thoughts or ideas of what the cause is? Or the damages i should expect?

Id be checking the prop hub. Possibly spun hub.

Is this something that just started? Or did you buy the boat and it does this?

Sounds like either a prop hub or engine coupler. Change the prop and see if it makes a diff. If not could be the coupler that requires engine removal to replace the $300 part.

Do you have a hydrofoil on it?

I purchased a boat that did the same exact thing. Swapped out 2 different props from the local dealer thinking spun prop hub. No help. Removed the StinkRay hydrofoil and the problem was gone. Went back to the original prop that came with the boat. With my hull design, the hydrofoil apparently took too much water away from the prop causing massive cavitation.

Good luck with your prob...hope it is a simple fix.

No it does not have a hydrofoil.

It is already in the mechanics shop. I just waiting to hear about the extent of the damages... I just have a feeling this is going to be pricey.

Well the marina says it was a spun hub. So its all fixed now.
Is there anything else i should be expecting to be going soon?

Yeah I this has happened during my 4th time out on the boat.. I had just bought it two weeks ago...

Quick out of the hole starts are hard on prop hubs and couplers. The coupler requires pulling the engine out.

Yeah I this has happened during my 4th time out on the boat.. I had just bought it two weeks ago...

I would take a good look at the u joint bellows....
If there is one part you want to replace before it goes bad, that is the one.....
