I have boards only on a trailer holding a 15 Ft alweld boat. Thinking about adding rollers as well, any ideas?

Opinions, I'm sure we shall all endeavor to run the gambit
15 foot aluminum boat, pretty light, I would use bunks and throw some carpet to help it grab and protect.

Keel rollers would be OK but not really needed. If you roller question is in regard to a roller trailer over a bunk trailer, I would use bunks

Keel rollers and a few side rollers coupled with a pair or carpeted bunks was always my personal "standard". The last boat I bought ( a light 14' tinny)came with a bunk trailer. Rollers were not an option with that trailer manufacturer, even though I ordered the rig. Before she ever was launched I added a full set of keel rollers. Wasn't really happy. I want slick as a whistle and it just didn't grab me. I replaced the carpeted bunks with full roller bunks. Boy, now that IS slick! That's my new standard!

Bunk trailers can be used successfully at many ramps.
Keel Roller / bunk combination trailers can be used at most ramps.
There is no ramp that an all roller trailer can't be used.
An all roller / tilt bed trailer? - who needs a ramp.....LOL.

My boat clocks in at over 7K loaded. I just have bunks and don't have an issue taking it off or putting it on. Bunk lube helps though. I spray down the bunks a few times a season.

^^^ Yup... A $3 can of silicone spray, sprayed on carpeted bunks makes them pretty slickery :D I can pull/push my 14' jon boat by hand, well hard push or pull. At least it's not stuck to the bunks like before, without the silicone spray.

O/P, for the answer to your question do a quick search for bunk vs roller and be prepared to spend a couple days reading

I have been considering this as well. The homemade trailer that came with my boat has small narrow bunks that really stress the boat and have created a couple cracks on one side. I have been considering changing it over to rollers, but am leaning towards bigger bunks, possibly with the teflon coverings. I think bunks will be fine for me, considering my boat, motor, and everything doesn't top 400 lbs.

Fannet, you should clarify what you mean by rollers, as in just a keel roller in the middle of each cross member or an array of roller "trucks" as in the example pictured below. A full on roller trailer usually does not have bunks on a boat that small. If you mean just keel rollers then I think that is a good idea to have some that support some of the load along with bunks. Regarding keel rollers taking some of the weight It really depends a lot on what the keel looks like on the boat.

When I had a v-hull I loved the roller system. I swapped out the trailer when I bought a Jon and never cared for the rollers (even after adjusting) on the flat bottom. Converted it to long bunks and love it. My opinion rollers work very well with a v and not so well with a flat.

Oh the pain, the pain... Another roller vs bunk thread. Odd how these show up along the way. Next we can talk about the best oil again too.

I have a tri-haul and of course use both. Rollers for the center section, but bunks for the outer areas. Works for me... I like the bunks because they give a lot more surface area support on the haul. But then my little 14' tri-haul really doesn't weight that much either...

That's been my experience as well.
Wish I could find a nice tilt bed roller that would fit my 16' Alumacraft. Had one under my Lund and yes it would launch/retrieve anywhere.

It's not required to read any thread, nor post to it. If nobody replies, then the poster will HAVE TO do a search.

I think what people need to remember is that we have new members coming in and going out all the time. Many of which have never been to an open forum and don't understand yet how they function or how to use it. For this reason, yes we will see these same threads pop up on a regular basis. For all of us that have been around awhile and have particapated in these discussions I think we all know where each of us stand. As a matter of fact I have had my views changed a bit over the years by some of these discussions! Might have even learned how to express myself a lil better when one can't show emotion. Tongue-in-cheek dosen't alway come across that way from a keyboard.

Final word. SPRING! HURRY!!!!!
