Does anyone here have the Wal-Mart Dust caps on their trailer wheel bearings? I am repacking my bearings, and bought the one with the grease fitting on it, so you can pump grease into the bearing.

But idk if this has the spring so that you know when you put enough grease in there. This is the standard 1.98 size, (or somewhere around 2 inches in diamater). Does anyone have this type of dust cap?

This is baiscally a rip off of the bearing buddy that so many guys on here talk about. right?

sounds like it. I got mine from walmart, but they were made by Reese which makes alot of trailer components. they were identical to bearing buddies.

So the dust cap is the only componet to bearing buddies right?

it is just a regular dust cap with a grease fitting, right?

I am getting this new dust cap, and a new seal, and everything else I am reusing. The bearings showed no signs of wear.

the "bearing buddy" is only the part that taps into the end of your axle, over the bearings and nut and cotter pin, and has the zirk fitting facing you when installed. I was looking for a good pic real quick but couldnt find one.

With a new inner seal, and repacking the bearings if they show no signs of wear, then installing the bearing buddies you should be good to go. Did the bearing races look okay?

if you are re using the bearings, theres no need to take the old races out. new bearings=new races, old bearings=old races. if the races look good and arent rusted or pitted or anything and are smooth and even to the touch, then they should be alright.

Mine were questionable this year, so i just spent the $50 or so on new bearings and races and put em in myself, its not too hard and only takes a few minutes or so longer. I also bought a bearing packer at pepboys for around $10, what a lifesaver that is. so much cleaner and faster than hand packing.

thats a good video.....but i would buy better tools if you had to. A soft punch works better than a screwdriver, and i use wood when setting the races until the last bit then i use the soft punch again so nothing gets damager. and, spend the 10 bucks on the bearing packer with the zirk fitting on it, its soo worth it. and, at the end the block of wood again for the seal install would be better. just from my experience and what the ol man has taught me over the years.
