Wheel wobble....

Anyone experience a wheel wobble due to newer trailer wheels failing to sit flush against wheel hubs?

Behind the wheels I purchased, there are smaller indention which cause a deviation in how the wheels rest against the hub. Should I be looking at a different type of rim or would this be an entire hub issue th at may require replacement?

The older 8" rims rode fine, but the road star wheels and tires seem to be unsatisfactory for towing the jon boat around. I'm getting some serious wobble on both rims, and they are not bent, nor are the bearings bad.

Thoughts?

Ayuh,.... If the wheels don't fit flush against the hubs, ya either got the wrong wheels, or hubs,...

Or you have them installed backwards. Lug nut tapered seats face outward.

Are your hubs and wheels 4 holer's....These are a PITA to get running true. With the wheel off the ground hand tighten each lug. Spin wheel to see if it is running true then snug up with wrench. Once on ground you can really tighten. Did you go from a 8" to a 12", as mentioned before, are you sure it's mounted right. Plz send pictures

The wheel hubs are 4 hole. And yes, I upgraded from a 8" to a 12"

As for the pilot hole, I am guessing that may be part of the issue. It seems like the wheel just wont fit flush against the hub.

I am in Florida right now, and will get on the pictures once I get home. I have kicked around the idea of just replacing the hubs to something newer if I can't figure out the issue as the trailer is pretty old. The axles are welded into a piece of tubular stock mounted underneath the trailer, so obviously I have to ensure that they are true as well. I haven't checked them yet, however due to the previous wheels being fine other than too small I am assuming that they are fine.

I would just leave the 8" wheels on there, however pulling a 16 foot jon boat with my 3500 looks like Andre the Giant pulling a radio flyer.

Maybe you can just buy new hub kits, from Northern Tool....Just make sure you get the right bearing #'s...you taking approx. $35 a piece. When I went to WI to pick up my project this past summer, I just went to Farm and Fleet and bought the HUB kits and came home to Fla with no issue. Did not want to wastes my time with the old hubs and bearings.

Kind of what I am leaning towards as I would know that everything is good to go.

I know I mentioned that the old 8" wheels did not wobble on the wheel hubs, but just for grins, what is the best way to ensure that your axle is true?

I would say using a level as a straight edge should work just fine.

The axle being bent would not cause a wobble... The best way is an automotive alignment rack... Next best is a tape measure.... You don't check the axle, you check that the tires are the same track width both front and back.... Honestly tho if your 8" tires weren't worn on the edges don't waste your time because you already know it's fine.... Plus there's no way you can check this at home till you get the wheels fitting right.

I say put the 8" wheels back on. Who cares what it looks like. Get a drop hitch so the trailer is level n go fishing.

^^^^^ This ^^^^^

You are talking all around the real issue, can't debate the hubs into submission, they want the correct wheels.
