Wheels ... need a little help

Hoping for some help/opinions.

I have the red/gold chariot trailer that came with my Mariah Shabah 180 SE boat (all part of the special edition package). This includes the 2 original gold 14 inch wheels.

I only have the two that came on the trailer with the boat and NO SPARE -

I'd like to find replacements and a spare, or some method by which I can freshen these up to "like new" condition (I'd still need a matched spare in this case). I can't find anything other than chrome wheels of this style and if I go that route I have to either paint, powdercoat or anodize them gold.

Any suggestions?

On a side note, I would love to put something like this on the trailer, I think they'd look totally BAD***** (I am an old Pontiac guy so don't hold it against me)

It's my understanding that this would be just nearly impossible. And depending on the offset of these wheels potentially unsafe.

What say you?

The ones on your trailer "Look" like old american racing wheels. Normally if you look close enough your will find a mfg stamp or DOT number that might help track down the manufacturer. The fire chicken wheels would never fit without using some unsafe wheel spacers.

Probabally better off just replacing them all with some trailer wheels you like, or just realize that it is a spare tire and nobody cares if the rim matches ;)

Agreed, I was happy just to locate a spare that fit way back when I got the boat and the only stamp on it is 'Made in China'.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses, I get that - I am not stupid. I know that's the "easy" thing, but really isn't this (like most hobbies) about getting the most out of it, doing it right, taking pride in your rig?

I have a fairly rare, fairly unique boat. I don't want to just do it "good enough" heck I could go get a spare from bass pro or cabela's and maybe even put it under a color matched wheel cover, no one would know the difference right?

I'd know, and if I ever had to use the spare I'd be mortified rolling on unmatched wheels with this sweet boat and sweet trailer. If I had a beater on an old rusty trailer, I wouldn't care. But I have a nice boat and trailer and I have a great deal of pride in it.

I think someone on here said something about "Why is there never enough time to do it right the first time but always time to do it again?" ;)

I want this done right, the first time.

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder - good luck in your search.

Out of curiosity - when the tow rig gets a flat, are you mortified to put on the spare (I'm assuming it doesn't match)

Re: Wheels ... need a little help

I appreciate your help and actually yes the tow rig (2008 Explorer) does in fact have a 5th chrome matched wheel to the rest of the set. The only car I have ever owned that did not have a matched 5th spare is my current ride (2005 GTO) if you've ever seen the trunk in one you understand when I tell you there is NO way to carry a full sized spare. I mean it just will not fit, if it would I would have one on there too.

Regardless, does that matter? Was that comment warranted? even if I had 4 unmatched wheels on a 68 ford that's rust colored with a blue hood, does that apply to the question or make it less valid?

I dig it if you guys don't care, but if you want to help a fellow boater out then please do. Be an extra set of eyes for me, check local Craigslists when you're looking for your own parts and pieces and see something that might help, holla. If you want to help me figure out a way to fabricate a custom axle with GM hubs that would work with snowflakes or honeycombs, chime in.

But really did I do something to offend? Just because I want my set up RIGHT? That is annoying? Or troublesome?

I see people tackling much more difficult (complex, foolhardy, etc.) projects on here and getting help and ideas and feedback. I ask about wheels and I have people saying eah get a wheel and deal bro?

I am a bit surprised.

Didn't intend to offend, just realize that a lot of folks are going to find this funny for a number fo reasons.

Re: Wheels ... need a little help

I think I'd just go with a regular cheap spare wheel and a tire cover that matched the trailer. As for rare and unique, I'm not sure I'd consider an 18' Mariah runabout either of those, but to each his own I suppose.

Hey listen, I'm not too dissimilar to you. I searched for a matching spare rim and tire as well. It just wasn't available given the unique characteristics. It boiled down to buy the only available one or tow without a spare. Now go figure, my last trailer incident one of the original rims/tires and the spare (non-matching rim/tire) were destroyed in one incident and the spare wasn't even being used. It's $420 plus tax to replace both with yet more non-matching rims/tires.

In and of itself it's not rare. It is an SE edition and it's red with a color matched chariot trailer with the stock gold anodized wheels. I have not seen another like it in this part of the country and even on the Mariah owner's club I have only seen them of other sizes and models. Again, beside the point. But thanks - and I DO see everyone's point it would be SO MUCH easier to "just get a spare". Lets just say I am opposed to "easy".

Nothing in life is forever. If I have an incident and have to start over ... hey that's life. Just wanted to have it look right that's all. I may go WAY outside the box and do something that may have never been done before, I may find another stock matched wheel, I may just get a new set, who knows?

As far as being "funny for a number of reasons" that's cool, I love to entertain and if the masses are rolling on the floor laughing their you know whats off, all the better.

I KNOW there are creative, helpful, brilliant people on here that think outside the box as a lifestyle. I have seen projects on here that boggle the mind. I mean there's a dood making a fully custom pontoon with slide out sides like a camper for goodness sakes! Hopefully one the a fore mentioned individuals will stop in and see this thread.
