When do you call it quits?

Hi all,
This newbie bought 16ft '90 Glastron w/ a '83 75hp Envinrude O/B and a shorelander tralier. Paid $1,200 for all. Boat and motor looks ridden hard and put away wet!
The Johnnyrude starts hard and runs weak. Sounds like a compression and leak test is in order??.
If it comes back bad news, is it worth fixing or finding a re-build?
Thanks!

I guess that's a question you may have wanted to ask before you bought it. But now that you own it, best thing to do is check it out and see what you're workin' with. Do a compression check and see if the motor is sound. Has this motor sat for a long time? Do you know any history on it? Old gas, clogged carbs, fuel leaks, bad plugs and other non big money things can keep it from running good. If it has not had a water pump change lately, don't run it too long for now. Don't want to make a bad situation worse..Let us know on the compression test...
